The newly-built Yorkshire Cancer Centre, at the St James’s Institute of Oncology in Leeds, is an outstanding world-class facility that now delivers unparalleled levels of cancer care and treatment to the people of Yorkshire.
The Centre provides first-rate levels of cancer care and treatment for a catchment population of 2.6 million and delivers high quality care by developing and exploiting leading edge science, research and technology.
This regional facility includes diagnostic and therapeutic services for non-surgical oncology and certain specialist surgical services; it replaces and enhances existing cancer treatment services previously undertaken at Cookridge Hospital; the CRUK cancer medicine research centre, YCRN and NYCRIS play key roles in the new Yorkshire Cancer Centre.
Facilities in the 11-storey building include 4 theatres, an Intensive Care Unit and 12 linear accelerator chambers for radiotherapy treatment.
