September Ball 2008 – another astonishing year - raising over £60k
Guests at the annual glitzy Ball were wined & dined into the small hours, enjoyed sumptuous fayre, fabulous West End cabaret entertainment, exciting raffle and auction prizes and finished the evening off with a superb live band and disco, casino and giant scalextric before reluctantly heading off home after the 2.00 a.m. bacon ‘butty’ breakfast
A CARIBBEAN dream cruise with captain and chef was on offer as an auction prize along with dinner for 10 cooked and served in the successful bidders’ own home by a leading Yorkshire chef, VIP tickets and backstage tour at Opera North’s production of Tosca and - the ultimate – luxury villa accommodation in Tobago for eight people for one week.
Previous Ball events over the past twelve years have raised more than £500,000 for the former Cookridge Hospital where the event was originally instigated.
Now the black-tie event is contributing to fundraising for Cookridge's replacement, the £220m flagship Yorkshire Cancer Centre at St James's Hospital.
Appeal Director Sheila O'Shea said:
"It is one of the most prestigious and glittering charity balls in the county and the Ball committee and I are delighted that, in our inaugural year of fundraising, it has attracted so much support - both from guests attending, as well as organisations across Yorkshire and beyond who have contributed wonderful prizes for our auction and raffle. This is a new event for the Yorkshire Cancer Centre, but one with a long and successful history of supplementing state-of-the-art medical equipment for Yorkshire people with cancer.”
Diary Date:
If you missed the 2008 event, our 2009 Ball will be held at the Majestic Hotel Harrogate on Saturday 26th September
