Yorkshire Cancer Centre Appeal
Help us raise £10 million by 2010 to make this facility in Leeds a world class force in the fight against cancer. The research that brought about many of today's new and successful cancer treatments started over ten years ago. We're planning for the next ten years, aiming even higher, developing research and treatments to ensure more people survive cancer.
The Yorkshire Cancer Centre Appeal will fund:
- Specialist medical and scientific equipment that keeps the very latest cutting-edge technology an accessible reality.
- Patient 'Home From Home' comforts.
- Environmental and arts projects that uplift, soothe and heal patients.
- Ground breaking clinical research that will lead to new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer.
These funds will have a direct impact on patients who will use the centre from 2008 as well as the generations of patients who will need these specialist services in the fight against cancer for years to come.

The Four Appeal Strands
ARTS £0.5m

The thoughtfully designed
Bexley Wing, which encompasses the Yorkshire Cancer Centre Appeal, presents an ideal opportunity to display beautiful and exciting “works of art”. Many are created by the region’s best known artists.
By helping to raise £0.5 million we can bring colour, tranquillity and comfort to an otherwise traditional institutional setting.
RESEARCH £3m

This part of our appeal will attract leading scientists from across the world. With your support we can ensure that knowledge is gleaned and shared with our world partners in radiotherapy research.
By helping to raise £3 million you can be a part of this commitment to excellence and make Yorkshire Cancer Centre a world-class institute for tomorrow’s leaders in cancer research
EQUIPMENT £6m

A linear accelerator (LINAC) is the device most commonly used for external beam radiation treatments for patients with cancer.
It delivers a uniform dose of high-energy x-ray to the region of the patients’s tumour. These x-rays can destroy the cancer cells while sparing the surrounding normal tissue.
By helping to raise
£6 million we can provide the most advanced
LINACs for patients across
Yorkshire.
COMFORTS £0.5m

A hospital stay for most people can be a daunting experience - for patients with cancer it is all the more frightening. Patients may spend many hours and days either as an inpatient on a ward or in the Radiotherapy department awaiting treatment on a daily basis.
By helping to raise £0.5 million we can provide additional
comforts so patients feel more at home during their stay throughout the treatment programme.
For more detailed information on our £10 million appeal, please contact us and we will send you an appeal pack or alternatively we can send you information via email.
